SUSTAINABLE 101

Plastic-free. Carbon Minimal.  Fair Labor.

FASHION IS A DIRTY BUSINESS

True sustainability is quality that lasts a lifetime. Clothing has become cheap, fast and disposable. But at what cost?  Petroleum materials shedding microplastics, nonbiodegradable textiles filling our landfills, and unfair working conditions are common issues attached to the fashion industry.

HyperNatural is part of reversing this trend. We value traditional quality, materials innovation and working with nature.  We want people to experience the benefits in taking a more conscious approach to clothing. This is why we are making luxury products that will last for years, not one season. We invest in quality natural materials, and better workmanship – this is where real longevity starts.

LESS CO2. MORE SUSTAINABILITY.

To minimize emissions, we keep our manufacturing close to our material sources and transport our products by road and boat. In addition, our modern factories use energy efficient grade machinery for knitting and dying processes.  Minimizing our impact.

HyperNatural x 1% For The Planet®

1% for the Planet is a global organization that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, our members have given hundreds of millions of dollars to our approved Environmental Partners to date. Today, 1% for the Planet’s global network consists of thousands of businesses, individuals and Environmental Partners.

Natural & Biodegradable

Synthetic clothing like Polyester releases microplastics that end up in lakes and oceans after washing. That’s because synthetic clothing is made from – you guessed it – plastic.    Petroleum plastic materials take thousands of years degrade or maybe incinerated, putting carbon back into the atmosphere.  Synthetics are also extremely difficult to recycle.  Natural is more sustainable.

HyperNatural uses 95% natural and biodegradable fibers.  Our only exception is the 100% recycled Creora spandex which there is no natural alternative yet.  We eliminated all polyester product tags and care labels, usually made of polyester. No labels also mean no scratchiness!

Plastic-Free Packaging

Our packaging is 100% plastic-free. We avoid all unnecessary packaging, tags and especially widely used plastic polybags.   Instead, our products get their one and only bag inside the factory – made from reusable and recycled glassine paper.  We use only FSC recycled certified paper and cardboard materials.

Fair Production

We only work with trusted, certified production partners that we have known for years. Ethical factories that treat people with respect and share our vision to continuously reduce the impact we have on the environment.  It costs more to use these factories, but it’s fair and better for everyone.

Water Recycling

Fashion is responsible for nearly 20% of the world’s water pollution. Over 2,000 chemicals are used in order to process conventional textiles – including nasty ones like mercury, formaldehyde and chlorine.

HyperNatural is Oeko Tex Standard 100 certified, and a Blue Sign system partner.  We dye all our fabrics without harmful chemicals or heavy metals. In addition, our factories work with closed loop systems, ensuring nothing is sent back into nature that doesn’t belong there.
